Greenkeeping

This summer, our greenkeepers have been hard at work to try to get the golf course in the best possible condition for both now and the coming months.

Part of this has involved exposing old drainage. This has been jet washed and cleared out and will improve the condition of the course as we get to the wetter months. New ditches have also been dug throughout the course the assist with collecting the water.

Recently, we have been working on cutting back some of the trees around the course. As a part of this, we have ground down the tree stump which remained on the 16th hole. You may also notice that the trees on the 6th hole have been pruned back to improve access to the green.

As a part of maintaining the greens, we have recently aerated all of our greens. This work helps us reduce disease from spreading as well as control thatch levels. This work is all necessary to keep a consistent quality of our greens.

We are aware of the issues raised regarding parking during the busy periods of the week. In an attempt to assist with this, our greenkeepers have removed the sleeper dividers in the middle of the carpark. This will help with access for cars to the top spaces when cars are parked up the middle. However, we would ask all members to park considerately. This involves parking as close to the car next to them as possible while leaving room to get in and out of the car as well as not blocking anyone in.

Ladies & Ambassadors vs Test Valley

On the 1st of August our Lades and Ambassadors sections played a mixed match against Test Valley. This match was held at Chilworth with us coming out as the victors by a score of 5 ½ to ½. After the match everyone enjoyed a meal in the clubhouse.

 Club Clothing

We ask that any members who are participating in a competition on behalf of the club wear club clothing. This is appropriate as it represents the golf club and increases our reputation with other clubs. This applies for both home and away matches or on away days. There is a list on the notice board should you need to order any club clothing.

 Scorecards

Going forward, we request that all scorecards are entered into the computer rather than being given to the shop staff. The must all be filled out completely as demonstrated on the wall by the computer and signed. Once entered, these need to be placed in the appropriate slot in the box on the desk. This allows us to ensure all cards are entered.

Summer Knockouts

We are coming down the to the final few games of this year’s Summer Knockout competitions with the winners for both of the double’s competitions being decided before the end of this month. Congratulations to all those still in the competitions and best of luck in your future rounds.

It is now down to you, the players, to arrange your matches. Each round has a specified date that it must be played by. If the match is not played by this date, it will be decided by an alternative means. There will be no extensions on these dates.

 The Kitchen @ Chilworth

Following on from the success of the bingo, The Kitchen @ Chilworth held a quiz night on the 26th of July. Participants enjoyed a BBQ before getting their quiz heads on. The winning team were rewarded with a bottle of wine each. While second place won a sleeve of golf balls and last place were given some commiseration chocolates.

On the 7th of September, The Kitchen @ Chilworth will be holding a Ladies’ night. This will consist of an evening of crafting, nibbles and all attendees will be gifted with a free cocktail. More details will follow in the coming weeks so keep your eyes peeled.

Golf Events With Food

For any events which includes golf and food provided by The Kitchen, please liaise with the golf shop counter only with regards to menus, prices etc and not The Kitchen staff. This will make it cheaper and more streamline to arrange the event.

The Driving Range

Over the next few weeks, we will be revamping the outside bays on the driving range. This will involve relaying the surface and installing lights to increase accessibility to these bays all year round. We will also be installing new mats to improve your experience when using these bays.
