June 2024 Newsletter
Club Championship 2024
The Club Championship will take place over the weekend of the 6th & 7th July, with the Ladies and Ambassadors taking place on the 8th & 9th. The entry sheets will be on the notice boards in the shop. If you wish to play you will have needed to play in at least 5 qualifying competitions in the 12 months prior to the competition date.
If you are unsure of how many you have played, please check in the shop.
Golf Trolleys
We have had reports from the greenkeepers that there have been multiple occasions where trolleys have been seen on tee boxes and the greens. Please take great care to keep them off and also repair pitch marks and replace divots to keep the course in good condition.
Greenkeeping
Greenkeeping duties are still being hampered by the weather. Wet and warm conditions encourage tremendous growth and also potential for disease. The greenkeepers are continually monitoring the greens and using the necessary chemicals to try to prevent disease and also to feed them to make them stronger and more resilient. As you can appreciate keeping the course cut is challenging.
Do you enjoy playing Bridge?
We are looking to see if you would be interested in some informal games of Bridge in our new Clubhouse. All standards of players are welcome, including beginners.
If you're interested in playing, on an occasional or regular basis, please contact us. The games will probably be on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon at 1pm, and last about 2 hours.
(Times are not yet confirmed - let us know your preferences.)

Club Clothing
We ask that any members who are participating in a competition on behalf of the club wear club clothing. This is appropriate as it represents the golf club and increases our reputation with other clubs. This applies for both home and away matches or on away days.
Bingo
On the 24th of May we held our first Bingo night. This was very successful with a turnout of over 20 people. Everyone enjoyed the food and over £200 worth of prizes were won. The evening raised a total of £184 for Jane Scarth House.
Invite-A-Friend Vouchers
As a thank you to our loyal members, we are issuing a voucher to all members who request them (limited to 1 voucher per member). These vouchers will entitle you to bring a guest to play a round of golf with you at a special price of £15 on weekdays, £20 at the weekend. These rates are applicable between the hours of 10am and 3pm and are valid until 1st July 2024. Come to the counter to collect yours now!
Membership Renewal
Membership renewal is due at the end of this month. If you cannot decide which type of membership is most beneficial to you, please do ask Chris Gosney or Luke Churcher to have a look and see how much you have played so that you can make the correct decision. Five and Seven Day memberships are payable by standing order if you wish to choose this option.
Competitions
The following is a list of all club competitions taking place in June and a summary of competition results from all the April & May events. You will also find below events you may have missed from previous emails, as well as any club notices from the recent weeks.
Summer Knockouts
The draws have now been made for the Summer Knockouts. Each draw has been emailed to the participants of each competition.
It is now down to you, the players, to arrange your matches. Each round has a specified date that it must be played by. If the match is not played by this date, it will be decided by an alternative means. There will be no extensions on these dates.
Handicaps calculations have changed!
The method used to calculate handicaps has changed. If you need to know what handicap you are playing off, go onto the computer in the shop, find your name, select ‘My Course Handicap’ then select the course you are playing. This information can also be found on the England Golf app when playing at Chilworth or another club in England.
Chilworth’s British Open
To coincide with The Open Championship we will be holding a club competition on Thursday the 18th of July. This will consist of an 18 hole stableford followed by a standard English breakfast and the opportunity to watch some live coverage of the first round of The Open.
The entry fee will be £13 per person which covers the £4 competition fee and the food. Green fees will be payable as applicable. The Jane Scarth House charity bucket will be available if you would like to donate £0.50 for each bunker you go into – if any!
All members are welcome, and a sign-up sheet is on the counter. Entries close on the 14th of July with the tee times being allocated and emailed out.
Ambassadors away day at Burley
On the 16th of May the ambassadors played in an away day at Burley. This was a pleasant day enjoyed by all who took part.
If you would be interested in playing with the Ambassadors, all you need to do is put your name down on the sheet located on the counter. This is open to all male members of Chilworth over the age of 55. More information regarding the Ambassadors can be found on our website.
Stableford Changes
It has been decided by the Club Committee that, going forward, the club Stableford competitions will be split into two divisions. Division 1 will consist of golfers with a handicap index up to 16.0 with division 2 consisting of any golfers with a handicap index greater than or equal to 16.0.
2024 Euros in The Kitchen @ Chilworth
This summer, The Kitchen @ Chilworth will be showing the 2024 Euro’s. As a part of this they will be introducing a “Light Bites & Bar Snacks” menu. This will be a temporary menu served from 12pm to 9pm with a variety of tasty options.
