April 2024 Newsletter
Preferred Lies
Due to the inclement weather all across the country, England Golf have elected to extend the preferred lies temporary rule. This previously would have expired on the 31st of March but has instead been moved to the 31st of May 2024. Therefore, this rule will remain in place until the end of May.
Greenkeeping
Cristian and his greenkeeping team have been busy working on the course to get this in the best shape possible. We are extremely grateful to all of the volunteers who have put a lot of time and effort into helping out.
The rate that the grass is growing is challenging, but with us now being able to open 15 holes we are hopefully coming to the end of the bad weather.
Counter
We would like to welcome both Anna and Derek to our counter staff team. We would also like to welcome Joe to our greenkeeping team. We are excited to have them all on board and a part of the club.
Pitch Marks and Divots
Pitch Marks continue to be an issue on the greens. While we appreciate this may not you creating these, but it would be greatly appreciated that if you do spot any in the green you fix them. This helps our greenkeepers greatly as it allows them to use their time more productively in an attempt to open the whole course as soon as possible.
We also ask that members continue to repair their divots when playing a shot from the fairway. Without this the fairways are damaged and may dampen the experience and visual aesthetic when playing the course.
Litter
Recently, we have noticed a rise in litter on the Golf Course, Driving Range and in the Car Park. Please ensure that you are disposing of all of your rubbish in the bins provided. This helps the club maintain a clean environment and makes it more visually pleasing.
Clubhouse
Lots of you have already used and enjoyed the clubhouse facilities. The Kitchen @ Chilworth are always happy to hear all of the resounding feedback from the members and visitors alike and welcome anyone who hasn’t been down to try it out.
We are looking into the possibility of holding a Bingo night within the clubhouse. This would be for members and members guests on a first come first served basis. There would be a limited number of spaces available and would be held on an evening. Once we have more information and dates for this, we will let you know and post a signup sheet.
Summer Knockouts
With the start of the summer months come the Summer Knockouts. The competitions this year are the Singles Club Knockout, the Doubles Club Knockout, the Mixed Doubles Club Knockout and finally the Ambassadors Singles Knockout. Sign up sheet are on the notice board for all of the above competitions and there will be charged a £5.00 entry fee for each competition. Entries close on Saturday 27th of April. Members are able to enter as many of these competitions as applicable.
Ladies, we need your help. We have a number of male members looking for a female playing partner for the Mixed Doubles. If you are wanting to enter this competition but don’t have a partner, please let the counter staff know.
Ambassadors Away Day
On the 16th Of May 2024 we have arranged an away day at Burley Golf Club. The plan is to have a bacon role before the game, with an option to upgrade this to a full breakfast, followed by 18 holes of golf. Tee times are yet to be confirmed and further information will follow in the coming days.
Charity
Thank you for all your help raising money for Jane Scarth House in 2023. Last year we were able to amass a total donation of £3,010.20.
As you may be aware, it has been decided by the committee that we will continue to support Jane Scarth House as our chosen charity again this year. This year we have already raised £193.70 from the Ladies and Ambassadors Easter Scramble.
